Two Great Blue Herons were released Aug. 21 at the 6,150-acre Gulf State Park on Shelby Lake near Gulf Shores, Ala.
Richard Looney, Carissa Kent and Ken Rice are shown from left to right releasing two herons. Two other birds — a Royal Tern and a Laughing Gull — also were released.
The birds were cleaned at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Theodore, Alabama. So far, nearly 1,000 birds have been cleaned up four wildlife rehabilitation centers from Louisiana to Florida.
